Wait…I Need a Password to Enter the Restaurant!?

Whenever we travel, we always look for cool restaurants and activities along the way.  A lot of places we’ve stopped are small roadside attractions, which is why I enjoy road trips! This summer, we took a nine-hour road trip from Ohio to Wisconsin and were able to find some interesting stops along the way!

Safehouse

We made a quick, one-day stop in Chicago to check out the city. As I was researching places to eat, I came across a really cool restaurant called Safehouse.  Unfortunately, their reservations were full on the day we were in Chicago, but their location in Milwaukee, WI had availability the next afternoon.

Since we were heading to Wisconsin Dells, Milwaukee wasn’t too far out of our way. The detour only added about 30 minutes to our drive and got us to the restaurant right around lunch time.

This restaurant was a perfect surprise stop for our kids. We all enjoy themed restaurants like Sci-Fi Drive In and T-Rex Cafe in Disney so it only makes sense that we’d enjoy this one too.  The kids just knew we were going to lunch so they were excited to check out this spy-themed restaurant. Safehouse offers a variety of casual food and drinks–and they are all named with spy terms, which adds to the fun.

Entrance

The theming is done well from the decor to the food and drinks.  Not only does it look and feel cool, but you get to participate in a scavenger hunt during your visit too.  And finding the restaurant is part of the hunt!  Because it’s a “safe house” you won’t find a big sign advertising it.

It’s unassuming entrance gets you into a holding room, where a password is necessary.  If you don’t know the password, you’ll have to prove to the gatekeeper that you are not a threat.

Inside the restaurant

Once you’re in, you will feel as if you’re in a place that is hidden from the world.  The restaurant is decorated with all sorts of spy memorabilia.  Our server took our order and gave us a scavenger hunt to complete.  We started by hunting for things close to our table.  After lunch, we took our time to walk around and complete the scavenger hunt. There are several themed rooms all throughout the restaurant and each have their own pieces to your puzzle.

Exit

Ready to leave? Remember, a good spy never leaves the same way they came. Once you’re done exploring and completing your scavenger hunt, use the alternative exit.

If you’re heading to Chicago or Milwaukee, with or without kids, I recommend checking this place out!
